Block 01

Why crypto needs its own brakes

Paying with coins removes a few of the small pauses that slow down a card or bank deposit. There is no bank app to open, the wallet sits on the same phone as the casino, and a deposit can clear before you have had a second thought. Because Springbok counts everything in rand while your wallet shows coins, it is also easy to lose track of how much has actually gone.

That speed is why the limits need to be set by you, in advance, in rand.

Block 02

A rand budget that works with a wallet

  1. Set a monthly amount in rand

Choose a figure you could lose without missing a bill or dipping into savings, and write it down.

  2. Fund a separate wallet with only that amount

Keep the coins you might play with apart from any coins you hold for other reasons, so one cannot quietly feed the other.

  3. Log every deposit in rand

Note the rand amount the cashier shows each time, not the number of coins. Add it up before every new deposit.

  4. Stop when the month's amount is gone

No top-ups and no borrowing from next month. A loss is the cost of the entertainment, not a debt to win back.

Block 03

Warning signs to take seriously

  • Sending a fresh deposit straight after a loss to win it back.
  • Moving coins you had set aside for rent, school fees or debts into the casino wallet.
  • Hiding deposits or wallet activity from people you live with.
  • Selling things or borrowing to fund another session.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down.
  • Playing to escape stress, boredom or low mood.

If two or more of these sound familiar, call or message the NRGP. The counsellors deal with gambling every day and will not judge you.

Block 04

Springbok's own limits and self-exclusion

Springbok's responsible gaming page offers daily or monthly deposit limits and self-exclusion for a period you choose (minimum one month), both arranged by contacting Springbok 1. Ask through live chat or by email, say exactly which limit or exclusion period you want, and keep the reply.

Pause point

Set it while you feel calm

A limit asked for after a good week is easier to keep than one asked for in the middle of a losing run. If you are unsure, choose the lower figure.

Talk to someone today

The National Responsible Gambling Programme offers free, confidential counselling on 0800 006 008 and on WhatsApp at 076 675 0710 2. If gambling has left you feeling hopeless or unsafe, the SADAG crisis line on 0800 567 567 is free and answered 24 hours a day 3.

Keep your wallet and casino logins away from anyone under 18, and use your phone's own screen lock so a child cannot open either. Our checking method explains how the figures on this site are sourced.
